Hip Bursitis

Friday September 5, 2003
Trochanteric bursitis, also called hip bursitis, is a common problem of pain and inflammation over the ouside of the hip and thigh area. Treatment consists of resting and medications.

Bursitis is caused by inflammation of a bursa--a slippery, fluid-filled sac that fits between moving structures. The bursa allows movements to be smooth and gliding. When the bursa become irritated, it becomes thickened and inflamed. The once smooth movements start to become painful and difficult.
