Torn Cartilage Treatments

Once it is determined you have a torn cartilage (meniscus tear) in your knee, a treatment plan will have to be determined. Many patients with a torn meniscus will not need surgery, however, there are some patients who are best served with surgical treatment of a torn meniscus.

The two primary categories of surgical treatment of a meniscus tear are a removal of the torn portion of meniscus (partial menisectomy), or a repair of the torn meniscus. Which treatment is best depends on several factors including the type of meniscus tear, where the tear is, what the patient expects, as well as other factors.
