Does Achilles Tendonitis Lead to Achilles Tendon Tears?

Achilles tendonitis is a problem causing inflammation and irritation to the tendon in the back of the ankle. Achilles tendonitis is surprisingly common, but fortunately, the problem can usually be cured with some simple treatments. Many patients are concerned about Achilles tendon rupture, and if tendonitis will lead to eventual rupture of the Achilles tendon. The answer is, not usually. Only a small percentage of patients (about 20%) who have an Achilles tendon rupture had any symptoms of tendonitis prior to their injury...
