Pulled Muscles

A muscle strain, commonly referred to as a pulled muscle, is an injury that occurs when the muscle is stretched too far. A muscle strain most often occurs during an eccentric contraction--when the muscle is contracting, but being pulled in the opposite direction. When this happens, tears can occur in the muscle fibers. Depending on the extent of the tearing, muscle strains can take several days to several months to completely heal.
