Sore Ribs

By September 23, 2007

Follow me on:

Costochondiritis, inflammation of the cartilage of the rib cage, is a possible cause of sore ribs. Often seen in athletes, costochondritis can lead to symptoms including:
  • Painful ribs
  • Ribs tender to the touch
  • Pain when taking a deep breath
There are other causes of chest and rib pain, and it is important to see a doctor if you expereince these symptoms. If the diagnosis of costochondritis is made, treatment may include medications to decrease inflammation.

Thanks for the info. I found it very helpful because my ribcage have been very tender to the touch, on both sides, for about 5 months now. I will definitely follow up with my Orthopedic.

yup I’ve had sore sternum/ribs on and off since 2006, got heart and lungs tested but never found anything so I decided it was costochondritis, it acts up the most when I swim or laugh, or my back cracks. If it’s painful I take Advil, but usually it’s just annoying. get calcium and do stretches physio gives. hope that helps.
