Broken Wrist
A wrist fracture (broken wrist) is a common orthopedic injury. Patients who sustain a broken wrist may be treated in a cast, or they may need surgery for the fracture.

Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a common type of arthritis, a condition of destruction of the cartilage surfaces in a joint. Once thought to be due to wear and tear of the cartilage, osteoarthritis is now better understood to be much more complex.

Hip Replacement Implant Failure/Loosening
Hip replacement implants may loosen over time, a process called osteolysis. If this is the case, hip replacement revision surgery may be necessary. New hip replacement implants are being developed to avoid this problem.

NSAIDs
Many orthopedic conditions are treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, including arthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis. These medications treat pain, inflammation and swelling. Many drugs are available, and patients often want to know which is best.

Chronic Pain Management
Treatment of Chronic Pain: Information about causes of pain, treatment, and finding relief for chronic pain symptoms.

Gout
Gout is a common condition that can cause joint pain and swelling. Gouty attacks may come back in some individuals, and can lead to other problems. Controlling gout with medication is an important part of treatment.

NSAIDs
Information about nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain medications (NSAIDs); a medication group common prescribed for orthopedic problems. Often used to treat arthritis, these prescription and nonprescription drugs (e.g. Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Celebrex, Vioxx, Bextra, Naprosyn), help treat pain and inflammation.

Shoulder Dislocation
A shoulder dislocation is an injury that occurs when the top of the arm bone (humerus) becomes disconnected from the shoulder blade (scapula). Shoulder dislocations occur after falls or other serious injuries, and often require someone to pop the joint back into place. Some patients complain of long-term instability of the shoulder joint.

Epidural Steroid Injection
Epidural steroid injections are an option for the treatment of back pain and inflammation around the spinal nerves. An epidural steroid injection is performed using an x-ray to guide the medication to the area adjacent to the inflammed spinal nerve.

Sciatica
Sciatica is caused by irritation around the sciatic nerve. This causes pain around the hip and thigh region. Treatments for sciatica aim to reduce the irritation of the nerve.

Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis is a common cause of back and leg pain. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the canal in which the spinal cord travels. This can cause pinched nerves, and may require cortisone injections, physical therapy, or even surgery for relief.

Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a condition that causes abnormally thin bone. Osteoporosis may be due to not enough calcium consumption, estrogen deficiency, age, or a combination of these factors. Because the bone is thinner, less dense, and more fragile, patients with osteoporosis are at a higher risk of sustaining a broken bone, or fracture.

Trigger Finger
Information about trigger finger, a common problem of finger 'snapping' that is due to inflammation around tendons. Treatment of trigger finger may include a cortisone injection, medicaiton, and surgery.

Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow, also called lateral epicondylitis, is a common cause of elbow pain. Treatment of tennis elbow usually involves rest, ice, and medication; if this fails, treatment with surgery may be considered.

Patellar Subluxation and Dislocation
Patellar subluxation occurs when the kneecap is pulled laterally as it tracks while the knee joint is bending. In some patients, patellar subluxation can result in kneecap dislocation, a painful situation when the kneecap pops out of place.
