The Application Process
The ERAS application is now the standard residency application for orthopedic surgery. Note: you must register for both ERAS and NRMP to participate in the services each program offers. ERAS registration costs $60 for the first 10 programs, and additional fees are required for more more programs. If you have questions about ERAS, start off here.
The Match
The NRMP organizes the match to appoint residents to graduate medical education residency programs. Note: you must register for both ERAS and NRMP to participate in the services each program offers. You can register for the match here. Match registration costs $65, and allows you to rank 15 programs. Additional programs cost $30 each to rank.
Residency Program Information
The most important step is deciding which programs to consider. Some aspects you may want to consider include:- Geography
- Program size
- Emphasis on clinical work
- Emphasis on research
- Operative experience
- Where are graduates of the program
- What fellowships are graduates attending
