Shoulder and Elbow Surgery

Articles Index

Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain is an extremely common complaint that has many causes. Because we use our arms for so many common activities, shoulder pain can cause significant problems. In order for proper treatment, the cause of the problem must be identified.

Biceps Tendon Rupture
The biceps tendon connects the biceps muscle to the bone both at the elbow and the shoulder. Either the proximal end (at the shoulder) or the distal end (at the elbow) may rupture. Treatment of a biceps tendon rupture may consist of surgical repair.

Shoulder Separation
A shoulder separation is an injury to the acromioclavicular joint, also called an AC injury. A separated shoulder may be treated with a sling in most cases. Shoulder separations can be confused with dislocations, but there are very different injuries!

Shoulder Dislocation
A shoulder dislocation is an injury that occurs when the top of the arm bone (humerus) becomes disconnected from the shoulder blade (scapula). Shoulder dislocations occur after falls or other serious injuries, and often require someone to pop the joint back into place. Some patients complain of long-term instability of the shoulder joint.
