Like all the Guides at About, I'm a real person. I welcome your comments and suggestions. I have a hectic schedule, but I do make an effort to respond when possible.
I do have a few important points:
- Please do not ask for a second opinion or a personal medical recommendation! I will not respond to such requests. This includes asking what diagnosis may be causing your symptoms, what treatments are appropriate for you, etc. These must be discussed, in person, with your doctor. If you need help finding a doctor, try the following suggestions:
- Please check the Frequently Asked Questions (see below), and the A to Z Index of Conditions to see if these will help you with your question.
- If you have question, or if you want to share your own experience, there is an Orthopedics Bulletin Board where you can post. Other readers of the OrthoBoard can respond to your posts. This is not for medical advice, but it is an excellent place to share ideas and experiences with other patients.

- A. Many patients come to the Internet to find more information about a diagnosis. This can be helpful because understanding your condition is an important aspect of treatment. However, some patients are unsatisfied by vague introductions to their condition, and non-specific treatment recommendations. Why can't the information be more precise? - Q. I saw a report on t.v./read in a magazine about ______. Where can I learn more?
- A. Most articles you may have seen in print journalism should be accessible on the Internet. Go directly to the Newspaper or magazine web site. You can find some helpful information in finding more information about these articles/shows on this page.
- Q. I'm trying to find information about an implant/prosthesis I had put in. How can I find information about the implant I have?
- A. Find out from your doctor the name of the company that manufactures the product, and then try to contact the company directly for more information.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide information about implants. You must contact the company directly if you have any questions regarding their implant or prosthesis.
- Q. Can you explain a medical report/radiologists report to me?
- A. If you need help making sense of a medical report, you can peruse the information on this web site. However, I cannot read individual reports and interpret these. If you have a confusing report that you want to understand better, take it to your next doctors appointment, and ask for it to be explained.
Furthermore, because of the risk of an email virus, I cannot open any attachments that are sent to me. Please do not send any attachments or medical reports, these will not be opened!
