DVT: Deep Venous Thrombosis
Deep venous thrombosis, or DVT, are blood clots most commonly found in the large veins of the lower extremity. Blood clots are extremely common following orthopedic surgery. In fact, blood clots are so common following joint replacement that blood thinning medication is routinely given to minimize the chance of developing a clot.
Shoulder Arthritis
Shoulder arthritis is less common than degenerative changes to the hips and knees, but can be extremely debilitating. Patients with shoulder arthritis may try conservative treatments, but eventually may need shoulder replacement surgery.
Partial Knee Replacement
Partial knee replacement is a minimally invasive procedure also called unicompartmental knee replacement. The minimally invasive partial knee surgery is used to treat knees that have arthritis in specific areas.
Patella Fractures
A patella fracture is an injury to the kneecap. Most patella fractures heal well and patients tend to return to their previous level of activities.

Thumb Arthritis
Thumb arthritis is one of the most common places in the body at people can be affected with wear and tear of the joint. The treatment of thumb arthritis usually begins with simple measures, but for severe cases of thumb arthritis, surgery may be necessary.
Labral Tear
A labral tear is an injury to the shoulder joint. There are several patterns of a torn labrum and the type of treatment depends on the specific injury. Most labral tears do not require surgery, but there are certain situations where surgery may be recommended for a torn labrum.
Shin Splints
Shin splints are a common problem in runners and jumping athletes. This symptom of pain over the front of the tibia is what orthopedists call shin splints. There are several causes for shin splints and different treatments for this painful condition

Sports Hernia
A sports hernia is an injury seen in athletes in a variety of sports. The sports hernia occurs when there is a weakening of the muscles of the abdominal wall. Treatment of a sports hernia may require surgery if the symptoms do not resolve with conservative treatments.
Tibia Fracture
Tibia fractures involve injury to the shin bone. The most common types of tibia fractures include tibial plateau fractures, tibial shaft fractures, and tibial plafond fractures. Each injury type is discussed here, including treatments available.
Blood Donation Before Surgery
Blood transfusions are sometimes required after surgery. Most blood transfusions come from donated blood, but some patients choose to donate their own blood preoperatively. Learn about preoperative blood donation and if it may be appropriate for you.
Bilateral Knee Replacement
Bilateral knee replacement surgery means that both knees are replaced. Bilateral knee replacement can be performed as a simultaneous procedure (both surgeries done on one day) or as a staged procedure (done on different days).
Knee X-Rays
When evaluating your knee pain, your doctor will commonly obtain x-rays as part of this evaluation. What is your doctor looking for when x-rays are performed on your knee? Learn how the results could help determine the cause and treatment for your knee pain.

Patellar Subluxation
Patellar subluxation occurs when the kneecap is pulled laterally as it tracks while the knee joint is bending. In some patients, patellar subluxation can result in kneecap dislocation, a painful situation when the kneecap pops out of place.
Patella Injuries
Patella injuries are a common orthopedic injury and cause of pain. The patella, or kneecap is important in the mechanics of your joint, and irritation of the kneecap can cause pain and problems.
