Finger Joint Replacement

Just about any joint in the body can be replaced with an artificial implant. While most people are familiar with hip and knee replacements, finger joints can also be replaced. This is important because fingers are the most commonly arthritic joints in the body.

Labral Tear of the Hip Joint

The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint that is surrounded by a ring of cartilage called the labrum. The labrum of the hip helps to hold the ball in the socket, providing stability to the joint. Injuries to the hip can result in a hip labral tear, sometimes requiring surgical intervention.

Squeaking Hip Replacements

A hip replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces a worn out ball-and-socket joint with an artificial joint. Certain types of artificial hip replacements have been found to make a squeaking noise. Often a squeaking hip replacement is just an inconvenience, but sometimes a noisy hip may be a sign of problems with the implant.

LCL Tears

The lateral collateral ligament, or LCL, is one of four major knee ligaments. LCL tears are an injury to the ligament that supports the outside of the knee. Most LCL sprains can be treated without surgery, whereas more severe LCL tears often involve other knee ligaments and may require surgery for treatment.

Activities After Knee Replacement

Some activities should not be performed after knee replacement surgery because of the effects on the joint replacement implant. Activities that place too much stress on the implant should be avoided so the knee replacement does not wear out quickly.

Patellofemoral Replacement

Knee replacement surgery is a procedure performed to replace worn out cartilage in the knee joint. A partial knee replacement can be considered when only a part of the joint is worn out. When the kneecap is the only part of the knee that is arthritic, a patellofemoral knee replacement may be an option.

Pain After Knee Replacement

Persistent pain after knee replacement is the most common complication after this surgery. While most people are worried about risks including infection and blood clot, the most common reason people are not satisfied with their outcome after knee replacement is persistent discomfort.

Ingrown Toenail

An ingrown toenail is a painful toe condition when the nail causes irritation and possibly infection of the surrounding nail fold. Treatment of an ingrown toenail may require partial removal of the nail.

Pediatric Femur Fractures

Femur fractures occur when there is an injury to the thigh bone. A femur fracture is not an uncommon type of broken bone in a child. The treatment of pediatric femur fractures depends on the age of the child.

Syndesmosis Injuries

The syndesmosis is the ligament that connects the two bones of the leg, the tibia and the fibula. Injuries to the syndesmosis are usually associated with ankle injuries, including sprains and fractures. When the syndesmosis is injured, treatment may be more significant than with a simple sprain or fracture.

Shoulder Chondrolysis

Shoulder arthroscopy is a surgical procedure used to treat a variety of shoulder conditions. Considered a very safe surgery, shoulder surgery can lead to possible complications. One serious complication is called chondrolysis, a condition that causes rapid disintegration of joint cartilage.

Bunion Surgery

Surgery is considered for treatment of a bunion when shoe modifications are not enough to relieve symptoms. Surgery for the treatment of bunions has several potential complications. If the decision to have surgical treatment of bunions is made, patients must be ready for a lengthy rehabilitation.

Why Do Bones Break?

There are three basic reasons why you can break a bone. Mostly all fractures can be traced back to one of these causes. It is important to distinguish why a fracture occurred in order to appropriately treat the injury.

Treatment of Torn Achilles Tendon

Treatment options for patients who have sustained a tear of the Achilles tendon. Both surgical and non-surgical treatments are available to patients who have sustained an Achilles tendon rupture.

Kneecap Dislocation

A kneecap dislocation occurs when the patella comes out of its groove on the end of the thigh bone. Kneecap dislocations are painful injuries, and often become a recurrent problem. Treatment of repeat kneecap dislocations may require surgery to stabilize the patella.

Jersey Finger

A jersey finger is an injury to one of the important tendons of the finger. People with a jersey finger cannot bent the finger down into a fist position. Most often, a jersey finger occurs during a sports event as the finger is torn away when trying to grasp or tackle an opponent.

Hallux Rigidus

Hallux rigidus is a common condition of arthritis at the base of the big toe. Arthritis of the big toe is the most common type of arthritis in the foot. Treatment of hallux rigidus may require surgery to remove bone spurs or to fuse the joint.

Osteitis Pubis

Osteitis pubis is an uncommon cause of groin and pelvic pain most commonly seen in athletes. Osteitis pubis is an inflammatory condition that can usually be effectively treated with methods to control the inflammation.

Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Arthroscopic knee surgery is a treatment option for some causes of knee pain. During an arthroscopic knee procedure, a small camera is inserted into the joint and small instruments can be inserted to help repair or remove damaged structures. Knee arthroscopy may not be an effective treatment for all causes of knee pain.

Arthroscopic Surgery for Torn Meniscus

A meniscectomy is a surgical procedure to remove torn cartilage in the knee. The meniscectomy is done using arthroscopic surgery on the knee joint. The arthroscope is a small camera that allows the surgeon to perform the surgery on the torn meniscus through a small incision.

Biceps Tenodesis

A biceps tenodesis is a surgical procedure to move the normal attachment of the biceps tendon in the shoulder. During this surgery, the tendon is moved from within the shoulder joint to a new attachment on the arm bone.

Warning Signs of Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes thin and weak bone making individuals susceptible to fractures. Weak bones can lead to serious injuries, and preventing the progression of osteoporosis can help reduce the risk of suffering from a severe injury. Know the warning signs that you may have osteoporosis.

Cervical Fusion Surgery

Cervical fusion is a surgical procedure used for the treatment of neck conditions. Usually these conditions cause arm pain, tingling, and numbness, as a result of pressure on a spinal nerve. Cervical fusion helps relieve symptoms of this problem

Tennis Elbow Injections

Injections are often used as a treatment for tennis elbow, but little is known about the effects of these injections. Determining which treatment is right for tennis elbow is complex as there may be treatments that are effective for some patients and not effective for others.

Thera-Band FlexBar Treatment of Tennis Elbow

Treatment of tennis elbow can be a long frustrating process. Often attributed to 'overuse,' traditional tennis elbow treatment has focused on avoiding exercise and activity. A new treatment uses eccentric strengthening exercises with a device called the Thera-Band FlexBar for treatment of tennis elbow pain.
