Spondylosis is a condition where there is an injury (stress fracture) wiithin the spine. When spondylosis occurs, the vertabrae can move their position, a condition called spondylolisthesis.
Spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis is a condition that is seen when one spinal segment 'slips' away from another. Spondylolisthesis is most commonly seen with degenerative (aging) changes of the spine, but there may be other causes.
Spondylosis & Spondylolisthesis in Children
These are problems associated with a malformation, thought to be acquired, not congenital, of the vertebral column. This can lead to a shift in the normal position of the vertebral body.
Adult Degenerative Spondylolisthesis
Osteoarthritis of the facet joints can also lead to instability of a vertebral segment. When wearing away of arthritis destabilizes the spine, spondylolisthesis can result.
