How I Tore My ACL
I tore my ACL while playing soccer.
What Happened?
Sunday - I jumped up to clear a cornerkick with my right foot and landed on my left. When I landed, my left ankle gave out and I heard three pops and my knee wobbled. My knee felt odd, so I left the field and put on a compression brace, then went back in and finished the game.
I rested for a day (Mon). Got an MRI (Tuesday), then went to a recruiting practice (Wednesday). I trapped a ball and heard another pop. This one was extremely painful and put me on crutches. MRI came back the next day (Thursday): torn ACL. Found out during surgery, the last pop was my meniscus.
Lessons Learned
- Don't practice before you know what's on the MRI.
- Always try to land flat.
- Fear the massive popping noise.
- While the ACL is worse in the long run, meniscus puts you on crutches for 6-8 weeks. Don't tear your meniscus.
- My family has cursed knees. (My older brother has torn 3 ACL's ((2 left, 1 right)), my mom 2 menisci, my dad 3 surgeries on each knee for football injuries.)
- Please, protect your knees.
