What Made You Decide to Have Hip Replacement?

Hi,

The pain in my hip and leg started when I was approximately 46 years old. I tried everything to reduce the pain! The pain got worse and worse. I was told I was too young for hip surgery. Finally my doctor looked at me and said you should have this surgery. My daughter played soccer and I would think how far I had to walk across the field to see her play. It was so painful to walk. I am also a full time realtor and I would have my clients walk upstairs to view the 2nd story because it was too hard for me to go up and down the stairs. I had strangers ask me what is wrong with me because of my limp!

What Were You Not Prepared For?

Rehab was more time consuming and harder than I thought but I did it! I had minimal invasive surgery so it was easier than if I had the regular type of surgery.

Over all, I felt 10 years younger than when I was limping around. I am an active 53 year old, 5 ft 2, 110 lbs. I swim, ski, walk, work out, and participate in life!

My advice would be: don't wait if you are contemplating surgery. I am so glad I did not wait one month longer....life is too short!

Lessons Learned

  • I wished I had more of my own blood stored for transfusions. I ended up needing a blood transfusion because my blood pressure dropped so low- it was a risk to use blood from someone else, but if I hadn't had the transfusion I was at risk for a stroke.
